Ask, plan and report time right in the chat with Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot
Many people already use an AI assistant like Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot to write, analyze and plan. Now that assistant can also work directly with your data in Roughly Right. Ask "How is the Brand Identity project tracking against budget?" and get the answer in seconds. Or have it go through this week's calendar and suggest time reports – without ever leaving the chat.
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard for connecting AI assistants to other systems – a bit like a universal plug between AI and the tools you work in. Roughly Right now has its own MCP server, which means your AI assistant can read and work with projects, time, planning and finances in real time.
The really powerful part is that the assistant can use several connections at once. If you've also connected email, calendar, documents or issue tracking, the assistant can combine information from those with what's in Roughly Right. You ask in your own words – the assistant fetches, compiles and can even carry out the task for you.
The AI assistant has access to the same areas you use in Roughly Right every day. A few examples of what you can ask for:
Time reporting
Planning
Follow-up and reports
Together with your other tools
With MCP, Roughly Right moves into the workflow you already have. Project managers get a status overview before the client meeting in the same chat where the meeting notes are written. Finance can surface discrepancies and missing time reports ahead of month-end close with a single question. And employees report time in passing, based on what's actually in their calendar.
With the MCP connection, organizations can:
The AI assistant signs in with your own Roughly Right account and only sees what you already have access to. An employee can reach their own time and planning, while a project manager or finance lead reaches what they already have access to.
You stay in control. Access can be revoked at any time, either in Roughly Right or in the AI assistant. The connection isn't switched on by default either – we only enable it for your organization once you ask us to.
The MCP server is available to all customers starting today. Here's how to get going:
