Note: MCP needs to be activated on your account before you can connect. Email us at help@roughlyright.com and we will turn it on for you.
Work in progress: The MCP connection is a work in progress that we are continuously expanding. We would love to hear what you want to be able to do – email your ideas to help@roughlyright.com.
With MCP (Model Context Protocol) you can connect an AI assistant, such as Claude, directly to your Roughly Right account. You can then ask the assistant about time, planning and project finances in plain language, and have it report time or plan for you. The assistant only sees and does what your own account has permission to.
The free version of Claude allows one custom connector. More information is available in Claude's help center.
MCP is an open standard, so in principle any AI tool that uses MCP could connect. For now, however, we only allow approved tools to connect to Roughly Right.
Besides Claude, you can also connect ChatGPT. Add a new connector in ChatGPT's settings, enter the address https://app.roughlyright.com/mcp and sign in with your Roughly Right account.
Would you like to use another AI tool? Contact us at help@roughlyright.com and we will look into adding it.
Area
Example of what you can write
Time reporting
"Report 3 hours on project Webshop, activity Development, yesterday."
Time reporting
"Which team members haven't marked their time as done for September?"
Planning
"How much is planned and unplanned on project Webshop?"
Planning
"Plan Anna for 20 hours on project Webshop in week 44."
Reports
"Summarise reported time per team member for the third quarter."
Project finances
"How is project Webshop tracking against the activity budget?"
Dashboards
"Summarise the figures in my dashboard for the management team."
The assistant signs in as you and has exactly the same permissions as your Roughly Right account. A team member without access to financial reports can therefore not see them via AI either.
The assistant can also change data, for example create, edit and delete time reports and planning. Always review what it suggests before you approve a change. To disconnect Roughly Right, remove the connector in your AI tool's settings.
I can't find "Add custom connector". On Claude Team and Enterprise, only Owners can add custom connectors. Ask your Claude Owner to add Roughly Right.
The assistant says it doesn't have access to Roughly Right. Check that the connector is switched on in the current chat and that you have clicked Connect and signed in.
I want to change the address or switch accounts. Remove the connector and add it again, then sign in with the right account.
The assistant can't find a project. Give the project or customer name as exactly as possible. The assistant only sees projects your account has access to.
